The Rescue Effort - RESCUE. REHAB. REHOME. We network with other vets, shelters , rescue groups and the community throughout all of California, and for certain cases nationwide, to rescue dogs and cats from situations that without our intervention would result in the unnecessary euthanasia of that dog or cat. We personally tour and search out shelters that euthanize due to over crowding, these dogs and cats sometimes have merely 4 days to find a family before their time is up. We seek out these dogs and cats through personal trips to the shelters, email warnings for at risk dogs and cats, and special requests by other rescue groups to work cooperatively to save these adoptable and loveable pets. This requires a constant staff for email review, shelter list review, phone calls to shelters, transport and time. All for a very worthy outcome, Saving Lives!
Pet Relinquishment Program - In an effort to provide support to our community during these difficult financial times, we will accept dogs and cats whose current families are unable to care for them and wish for a better situation for their pet. Our relinquishment program does require a small list of conditions to be met, a relinquishment donation and is subject to availablity of space. Click to Read More on Pet Relinquishment. Dog Behavior and Training - We bring in Trainers to ensure all dogs at The Pet Rescue Center get basic behavior training, socialization and guidance to ensure a smooth adjustment into a family setting after a potentially traumatic time before coming to The PRC. Community Outreach - We go out into the community for scheduled speaking engagements, we provide educational materials, we feature an "Ask the Doctor" at our PRC events we attend and provide a resource directory to the public through email and phone conversations to the community for pet rescue needs, emergency needs, financial needs, and shelter guidance.

- Children Safety & Pets Outreach - We have speaking engagements or events to teach children how to interact with their pets; safety tips, general day to day care and a general physical knowledge of dogs and cats.
- Pet Therapy (Children, Disabled adults and Seniors) - The therapeutic use of pets as companions has gained increasing attention in recent years for a wide variety of patients -people with AIDS or cancer, the elderly, and the mentally ill. Unlike people, animals provide an instant and constant source of comfort, love and focused attention. Animals bring out our nurturing instinct. They also make us feel safe and unconditionally accepted. We can just be ourselves around a dog or cat.
Medical Health Services - all medical needs of our rescues (which range from common shelter illnesses like kennel cough to complex like Distemper and Parvo, vaccines, medicines and microchipping needs.
Volunteer Opportunity - We are always in need of volunteers to help us maintain our facility, our programs, our events, and the general well being and socialization of the dogs and cats in our care. Our volunteers directly impact the lives of the dogs and cats at The Pet Rescue Center through their love, generosity and care. (Please see our Volunteer page for more information) Community Events - We attend events hosted by partner rescues and community organizations to publicize who we are and what we do for the community, rescue movement and local shelters. We attend adoption events to further promote the efforts of The Pet Rescue Center and to bring attention to the dogs and cats in our care. (Please see Events page to see upcoming events we will be attending and event recaps as well)
- Pet Food for the Unemployed - We have proudly partnered with RUFF and FOLFA to create a service that makes Pet Food available for Free to the Unemployed once a month. This service is available the 2nd Saturday of every month, 10am to Noon, at The PRC's location. Food and financial donations are accepted at any time to help us continue to provide this program.
PROGRAMS IN DEVELOPMENT (funding permitting)
Grant A Wish - The Pet Rescue Center will allocate financial grants, as they are available , to assist families undergoing financial hardship to provide lifesaving treatments for their pet. This is a wonderful program that will help fill a critical need in our community. Emergency veterinary care is sometimes urgently required to save the life of a beloved pet due to an accident or accelerated health issue, due to the strain of the economy this care is not always a feasible expense. The Grant A Wish Program is our way of preventing the unnecessary euthanasia of these dogs and cats in this situation, by providing financial assistance at the request of the pet owners veterinarian to save the life of your beloved dog or cat through the generosity of The Pet Rescue Center's Grant A Wish program. (Please see Grant A Wish page to see some example cases we have had in the past) Campaign for PRC's Independence - The Pet Rescue Center is temporarily located within Alicia Pet Care Center. We strive to improve our service to the community, our accessibility and impact we can make on the pet population. We hope to grow exponentially every year. We are working to raise funds to continue providing the programs that make The PRC an important part of the community, as well as put some money aside into a fund to move The Pet Rescue Center into its own facility. We are incredibly grateful for the generous allowance of time Dr. Wheaton has given us to continue our work and we hope to soon be on our own to make him proud.
Our fundraising goal for The PRC in 2010 is $500,000. This money will support all the programs listed above as well as create a solid grant savings for The Grant A Wish Program. Any funds raised above and beyond our basic needs will go into a savings that will work towards The PRC's Independence. - Thank you, as always, for your support and belief in The Pet Rescue Center -
